Dodo 🦤

The dodo is a well—known extinct flightless bird. It was endemic to the island of Mauritius.

The first documentary mention of the dodo appeared in 1598 thanks to Dutch navigators who arrived on the island.

The appearance of the dodo is known only from images and written sources of the XVII century.

The last observation in nature was recorded in 1662.

Causes of disappearance.

1. Dodos were not afraid of humans at all, because they developed in isolation from serious predators, and also could not fly, this made them easy to catch for sailors.

2. The impact on the number of species from imported animals, especially pigs and macaques, is considered more significant and significant.

The extinction of this species in less than a century since its discovery drew the attention of the scientific community to the previously unknown problem of human involvement in the disappearance of animals, which in the future influenced the creation of laws protecting endangered species of animals.
